Faith is All You Need

What do you do when you've tried for years to have a child? Some people feel like giving up. On my behalf, I am blessed to have a person who is a mentor, friend, teacher and Gospel Writer in my life. Wanza has helped me to overturn some of my life's most difficult challenges. Infertility was one that I faced. Thanks to Wanza, I believe God for change. Through her books, inspirational words and being a true person who lives what she speaks, she has shown me that all things are possible to those that believe. She is a true believer that faith changes things. Her and her husband has believed God and now they have two beautiful daughters. I myself am now in the process of an IVF cycle. With my faith, God has made a way for me and my husband to have children.

Infertility is a hard situation to deal with but when you have a fabulous mentor like Wanza to remind you that your faith is all you need, no matter how hard things may seem. It is the best feeling in the world. God has given her a gift to help women build their faith and believe that it can happen for them too. I am a witness!

The Reason

There are so many questions we ask of ourselves everyday. Why am I skinny? Why am I black? Why am I fat?

One question that families suffering from infertility ask themselves constantly is “why can’t I have children?” We may not ask it verbally or even in those terms, but the questions comes through our emotions when we see a pregnant woman and we sigh. It is seen in our tears when a Mother’s Day commercial comes on and we know we will not be participating in the festivities this year.

The question arises in our hearts and minds when we are alone, left pondering why me?

The truth is there is nothing wrong with asking the question, but we must be prepared for the answer we receive.

Not the simple answers that we hear.

“Relax, it will happen.”

“Don’t worry, there is nothing wrong.”

And even the age old, “In God’s timing it will happen for you.”

Those answers are cute, but nowhere near comforting when you are faced with medical proof that your chances of having children are slim to none without some sort of medical procedure and possibly not at all.

If you are truly going to ask the question, “Why can’t I have kids?” you must go to the source; the one that made you, your creator.

Have no fear; God is not scared of questions. I actually believe he welcomes them. This is his way of getting into a closer relationship with you. When you ask, he can answer and that begins a relationship with your creator. He’s waiting for you to come to him for guidance.

When I began asking God, “Why me? Why my family?” I began to receive answers by reading God’s word. I found out that there are many women in the Bible that were not able to have children. Now, what did this mean for me? The more I read, the more I discovered that not only were these women not able to have children, but there circumstances seemed impossible to conceive children. Some of them were older in age, some had barren wombs and some the Lord had even shut their wombs for a specific time.

What did this say to me? I continued reading and realized that God had purpose for the lives of every woman that was barren. They were special. Each family’s case was different. It had meaning and the children they eventually had had great significance to God and his work.

I now had a reason for being barren. God had a purpose for me. I was special. I was different. And the children I bore would have definite purpose in the Kingdom of God.

The Covenant

Deuteronomy 7:12-14:
Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers: And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee. Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.

God desires to bless his children. Throughout the Bible we can see a loving God that desires to give his children the best. However, the best from God comes when we are obedient to his commands. God gave the Children of Israel specific instructions when they entered their new land.

With these instructions came blessings from God. The Lord declared he would keep his covenant if they would abide by his will.

Has God given you any specific instructions as it relates to infertility?

It should not be taken lightly that God in the blessings that he promises to give them that fertility is included. “…he will also bless the fruit of thy womb…there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.”

The Lord promised that they seed would live forever. That’s right. It’s not just about one generation being born but generations to come. God made a covenant to extend their lives for years to come and to provide for them as well. Their cattle would not be barren as well.

This is so important to recognize that God has everything in our lives covered. He has made provision for us to be fruitful and multiply and he will also take care of our families once they are born. God has not left a stone unturned. Sometimes we think we can’t have children because we can’t afford it, but that is not the case. God promised to open up the womb and remove barrenness from men and women and then provide for you.

Take faith and believe that God wants you to have a child. It is your right and a child of God and an heir to the Kingdom. When God spoke to the children of Israel he spoke to you. If ye be Christ, then are you of Abraham’s seed.

Everything he promised to them, he promised to you.

Infertility: The Diagnosis

Infertility often strikes us as something that can not happen to us. Not my family, of course not me. I was made to be a mom. How could I not have children? I was born to have children. I’ve longed for this day for so long.

Yet, we find ourselves leaving the doctor’s office bewildered with a diagnosis of infertility. Honestly, it doesn’t matter the reason the medical professionals said we can’t have children, only the outcome. Do I care if I have endometriosis, PCOS or two blocked tubes? Not really. What matters is the bottom line – will I be able to bear children?

When my doctor came to the realization that the only way I would possibly conceive would be through IVF, I knew this infertility thing was serious. It wasn’t a fad; it wasn’t going to just pass by without me being active about my health. I decided to make a conscious decision to not be defeated by medical terminology.

Did I join a gym? No. Did I go on a diet? Not really.

I became active about my health by activating my faith in God. I knew this was a job for Him. There was nothing that I could do medically to change my condition, but I knew a God that was able to heal all sickness and diseases.

I knew he was able to help me become fertile. I knew prayers worked. I knew believing God for the impossible was not a joke or a silly little tale someone told me in Sunday School when I was young.

My mother suffered from infertility and then multiple miscarriages. I remember hearing the old people say that they prayed for her to have children and then they had to pray for her to stop having them. My mom gave birth to four children. I am a result of prayer and faith in God. My siblings are a result of my parents’ faith in God. If it were not for them activating their faith, my siblings and I would not be here, neither would my nieces and nephews.

Believing God for what human beings say is impossible delights God to work on your behalf.

Don’t get caught up in the diagnosis, believe the one that can heal you.

4 Keys to Overcoming the Infertility Blues

Infertility breaks the heart of thousands of women who desire to become mothers. The key is not to let the sadness of not being able to have a child overwhelm you.

Is that possible? Yes, it is. As a survivor of infertility there are keys you must develop to remain positive about until your situation changes.

Be Kind - If there are moms in your world, be kind to them. Do not expect them to hide their happiness about their own children. Sometimes families dealing with infertility issues can be insensitive to other families that are enjoying their children. Don't make them feel guilty because you do not have children.

Be Helpful - Know a mom that needs help? Help her. The best way to find out the real joy of mothering is to help someone in need. When you have a child, that child is dependent upon you for all their essentials. Help a family that may be struggling to provide during the recession. Let joy replace sadness in your heart by making someone's load a little lighter.

Be Mindful - Not everyone knows your thoughts, feelings or emotions. Be careful when you respond to people that are seemingly speaking negatively to you. Everyone is not aware of your medical condition and believe it or not, they do not mean you any ill will.

Be Grateful - A key to receiving is to be grateful for what you have. What do you have that gave you joy before the doctor say you were unable to conceive? Take the time to write a list of things you can not live without and cherish them. Your world will become more enjoyable when you become grateful for the things you already have.

It is possible to live without saddness while you wait on your child. With God's help and these four tips, I discovered that I was able to live a life full of joy and peace during my season of infertility. I pray the same for you.

Infertility Defeated AGAIN!

If you told me faith in God doesn't work, I'd have to show you my proof that it does!

Infertility was defeated AGAIN. This week we welcomed our second child, Lyric Aaliyah Joye (Joy) into our lives.

I am overwhelmed by God's faithfulness, his grace and his mercy. I am no different from any other women reading this blog that has suffered through infertility. What God did for me and my family, he can do for you.

I have a renewed sense of purpose in this season to write more often about my family's infertility experience. The more I search the web or tweet with new friends, I'm finding that it's not about the infertility diagnosis, but it's about what you believe.

Join me as I write, encourage and simply rant about faith and infertility in this season. I believe if you're reading this God has something extraordinary for you. So, open up your heart and let's receive it.

Miracles are real and do happen today. I can't wait for you to receive yours.

God Rewards the Faithful

But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name. And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth. Luke 1:13, 14

I love this scripture because God rewards the faithful. Zacharias served many years in the temple despite not having his desire to have a child fulfilled. He worked, his wife was faithful to him and eventually God blessed.

Sometimes we look for an immediate result to our prayers. Yes, there are times when God will answer right away but there are also times when we must wait.

Yes, the dreaded four letter word - WAIT.

Zacharias and Elizabeth waited for years to have a child. God's had a purpose. He wasn't making them wait to tortue them or even tempt them doubt him. He had them wait because their child would be the forerunner for something great. Their child could not be born until Mary's child, Jesus, was ready to enter the earth as well.

God has excellent timing. He does everything with a purpose in mind. Zacharias and Elizabeth could have had John years before but John would have missed his purpose.

Be encouraged if you are in the waiting stage. Your children have a great purpose that can only be fulfilled by them. The timing of their birth is significant to the advancement of the Kingdom of God.

Father,

I pray that you give strength to the person reading this post right now. Strengthen their heart, mind and emotions to wait on you through this barren season. We know that this season is temporary and that you will reward the faithful. In Jesus' name, Amen.

The Courage to Believe

How many times have you believed for something and didn't get it? How many times have you changed your mind about a car purchase, your first home or your new shoes?

Well, having a baby is similar. When you believe God to have a baby you must remain consistent in your belief that He will answer you with your desire: a baby. Not a car, a dress or even a higher paying job to soothe your blues.

Your desire is a baby and that is what you should get.

I remember when I was planning for my marriage. I made sure I put the gynecologist on the list. I had my perfect timing. My husband, Arthur and I would be married for a year before starting a family.

Three months before the wedding, I left the doctor’s office with a birth- control prescription in hand and the joy of knowing that when I wanted to stop taking them, I'd have a baby.

That was not the case. In fact, I took the pills for three months when we decided to have a baby right away. After six months or so of not conceiving and not using any type of contraceptive, I became worried. I returned to my doctors who advised me to give it at least a year. Sound familiar?

Another six months quickly flew by with tons of negative pregnancy tests.

I kept hearing people say,

"Relax, it will happen when you least expect it,"

“You’re trying too hard, or the infamous, "in God’s timing.”

Now do you think I really wanted to hear that? NO!

And I didn't settle for a no.

The Silent Request

It so happened that as she continued in prayer before God, Eli was watching her closely. Hannah was praying in her heart, silently. Her lips moved, but no sound was heard. I Samuel 1:13 (The Message)

The thought of never having children is frightful. It bring tears to men and women's eves daily. It's a thought that has to be surpressed so that depression, sadness or lack of faith does not overtake one's soul.

Hannah is an example of a woman who was overcome with grief and sorrow. However, she did not take her bed and blanket and lie in it until she had lost all hope. She used the sorrow in heart that threatened to keep her barren and sent it up to God in silent prayer.

Her silent prayer was not was not an ordinary. It prayer spoke volumes in the spirit so much so that on the outside she looked drunk. The sorrow that almost overtook her was transformed into a request to God that could not deny.

If you're still talking about getting pregnant or explaining your infertility to anyone that will hear, I suggest doing what Hannah did.

Put your sorrow, your lack of hope and sometimes your lack of trust in God in to a fervent silent request.

Do You Know When You're Fertile?

Everyone knows the basics of conception: Sperm meets egg, and nine months later a baby is born. But many women don't understand the body's subtle fertility indicators. By learning about fertility awareness, however, women can acquire a useful tool for either aiding conception or preventing pregnancy.

Unlike the rhythm method, which estimates ovulation based on the length of a woman's cycle, fertility awareness is reinforced by daily observation and can work for those whose cycles vary from month to month. "Many women are taught that ovulation occurs on day 14 of their menstrual cycle," says Toni Weschler, author of Taking Charge of Your Fertility. "When it doesn't, they miss their chance to conceive, or misjudge the safe time of the month and conceive accidentally."

He Will Perform for You

And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a perfomance of those things which were told her from the Lord. Luke 1:45

I had no idea the aforementioned scripture would keep me through my days of infertility. I learned this verse from my cousing during my college days. She said it once and I have remembered it ever since.

The verse struck a chord with me immediately because it spoke directly to the woman. The words "she" and "her" are mentioned and there is no doubt that God meant this specifically for a woman.

If you read the entire chapter, you will find this text deals with two women that are pregnant. Their stories are incredible.

You have one that was barren and one that never knew a man, yet they were pregnant with two very important men that ever walked the earth.

One child was the forerunner for Christ and the other was Jesus Christ himself.

Not only were their pregnancies considered impossible to man, but their wombs bore children that had extraordinary purpose.

You must consider this text of scripture when you are overwhelmed by doubt and frustration during your season of infertility.

You must remember that God will perform those things that He has told you.

He has not forgotten you, nor forsaken you.

You have to begin to trust His word concerning your situation. Take this scripture and meditate on it. Place it in your heart and let God perform for you.

He performed for Mary - she had Jesus. He performed for Elisabeth - she had John the Baptist. He performed for me - I had Symphony. Her birthday is today.

And HE will perform for you!

Healing for You

And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee. Exodus 15:26

Who's report will you believe? The report of the doctors or the report of an awesome God that heals all diseases.

When facing infertility, you must know that God has a plan for your life that will give Him glory.

Do you know how much glory God receives when He performs a miracle? His name is glorified and magnified in the eyes of the believer and unbeliever.

Do not be discouraged by your doctor's report! They do not have the last say.

After taking numerous tests and laproscopic surgery I was told that I would not be able to have children. I remember sitting in the doctor's office not believing a word of what they were telling me.

How could I not have children? That is not what God said. I knew my diagonosis was true. I was unable to have children -- for right now. I was determined to take their report to the God I serve. And I did.

I began to remind God that He is the one who can heal. The Bible say He could heal and I believed what I read. For I am the LORD that healeth thee. I depended on God's word to see me through.

Put your faith in action and decree God's word over your infertility situation. Speak to the barren womb and tell it to be healed, in Jesus' name. Speak to every and anything causing your infertility - low sperm count, non-ovulattion, stress, blocked tubes, damaged tubes -- whatever it is, tell it to be healed.

A Precious Gift

In bitterness of soul Hannah wept much and prayed to the LORD. 11 And she made a vow, saying, "O LORD Almighty, if you will only look upon your servant's misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head." I Samuel 1:10,11(NIV)

When I faced infertility, I studied the story of Hannah continually. She was my role model. She was my proof that God would turn my barren days into fruitfulness.

Hannah was a woman of great faith. She was not so depressed by her situation that she could not find a reason for God to open her womb. I'm sure after careful thought, she realized there was a way for her to receive her desire and give God a precious gift at the same time.

Hannah purposed in her heart to dedicate her son's life to God's work.

She was willing to give her most valuable gift from God to God.

When I realized what Hannah did, I prayed again to God. This time, I offered Him my children. I promised Him that I would raise them to love Him. I vowed that I would teach them His commandments and principles.

I followed Hannah's example. I put away the tears and offered God my most precious gift before He gave it to me.

Today, I encourage you to pray and seek God concerning the child you desire to have. What is God's will for your children? Do you have a desire for your child to serve God? Are you willing to give your most wanted desire as a gift to God?

Birth Day

Today was my due date, Sunday, July 6, 2008.

I lost the baby between the 6-8 week mark. The doctors couldn't tell how many weeks I was. According to my calculations I was about 8 weeks, but the development of the baby showed a little more than 5 weeks.

It was a trying time for me. I had a miscarriage. I couldn't believe it. I spent more than a week going back and forth to the doctor. I even spent the night in the hospital.

The doctors diagnosed me with a Missed Abortion due to a blighted ovum. The sac for the baby was there, but there wasn't any life detected.

How could that be? I didn't know. I was so confused, tired and frustrated. A miscarriage? I already had a child after a bout with inferility.

The only thing I could depend on was that God always knows what He is doing. If I could go through years of infertility, surely, God could take my family through a miscarriage.

I encourage you today to look up to God for your help and support. There may be people that do not understand your hurt or the pain you feel, but God knows. He will not give you more than you can bear.

Meditate on this scripture:
Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end."

Do You Believe?

And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord. St. Luke 1:45

I can remember the first time I ever heard that scripture. I was at my cousins house and it was a memory scripture for her bible study class.

She gave it to me once and I've never forgotten it.

Little did I know, this would be the very scripture to encourage me day after day during my time of infertility.

This verse is surrounded by the story of two women who concieved miraculously. Mary the mother of Jesus conceived by the power of the Holy. Her cousin Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist conceived after being barren for many years.

They believed the words of the angel of the Lord, Gabriel when he told them they would have a child.

Has God said you would conceive and bear a child? Do you believe His words? If yes, you shall see a performance. You shall have her child.

Infertility can not stop what God has said concerning you. It is your right as a child of God to be fruitful and multiply.

Believe and watch the performance.

I don't believe in infertility.

There I've said it.

I believe in fertility.

Of course, infertility exists, but I do not believe it is God's design for you to remain infertile, barren or in simple words childless.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not insensitive at all to families suffering through infertility. Notice I said "through" because I believe you can come through it and not stay in it.

I speak from my experience...from infertile to fertile.

This blog is for families who refuse to give up.

It is for you who dare to believe God for what the doctors have said is impossible.

This blog is for those of you need who need a bit of encouragment to hang in there one more day.

This blog is for those who have the courage to believe God for a baby of their own.
